The Otways region is around 3 hours from Melbourne, but varies depending on what part of the region you are visiting. The Otways Hinterland is closer to Melbourne with Colac being 2 hours away, whereas areas at the western edge of the region can be up to 3.5 hours away.

The centre of the Great Otway National Park is 3 hours or 210km from Melbourne's CBD. Depending on your end destination within the Otway region, distances and directions differ.
To get to the Otway Region from Melbourne:
- Travel from Melbourne city onto the Westgate Freeway
- Continue onto the Princes Hwy
- Continue on the Princes Hwy Geelong & Torquay exit
- Turn left at Birregurra Forrest Rd (continue straight for Colac)
- Continue on Forrest - Apollo Bay Rd
- Turn right on the Great Ocean Rd at Skenes Creek
Alternatively, exit the Princes Hwy at the Torquay exit to travel the scenic Great Ocean Road coastal route.
Train services operated by V/Line are available from Melbourne to Geelong or Warrnambool, stopping along the way in major Otway hinterland towns including Colac and Birregurra.

Train times vary and are not available 24/7. Coaches will replace trains on the evening Geelong service, depending on availability.

V/Line provides bus services to and from surrounding hinterland and coastal towns within the Otways region.
- To visit hinterland towns including Forrest, busses connect at Colac Station once a week (Wednesday), serviced by the Melbourne - Warrnambool train line.
- To visit coastal towns including Apollo Bay and Skenes Creek, busses connect daily at Geelong Station and once a week (Wednesday) at Colac Station, serviced by the Melbourne - Warrnambool train line

The Avalon Airport
Located just outside of Geelong, Avalon Airport has several destinations within Australia for scheduled passenger services with airlines including Jetstar, Sharp Airlines and Tiger Airways but it does not currently accommodate International flights.

Also known as Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne Airport is the second busiest airport in Australia and is the major airport servicing the city with both domestic and international flights. Transport services and car hire are available onsite with connection to the city by public and private operators. Airport accommodation is available and basic convenience stores, cafes and restaurants are available most hours.
