About the listing
Located between Lorne and Wye River, Mount Defiance is one o the trickiest sections of the Great Ocean Road. The lanes are tight and the road hugs the cliffs here. Just imagine the challenges here when this section of road was being built almost 100 years ago. With no modern mechanised equipment the return servicemen who were set to work on the Great Ocean Road had the use of explosives and pick-axes. A plaque detailing the remarkable construction of the Great Ocean Road by World War One returned soldiers is at the site.
The small car parking area has a stone wall (no beach access) and the views here speak for themselves. The views toward Lorne of the Otways forest against the dramatic coastline will put a smile on even the faces of the motion sick. Keep the camera handy as this is a must-'gram'!
